Women of Pittsburgh 2000 was organized
to develop Christian love and harmony through understanding individuals,
culture, and community. Our goal is to help break down racial barriers.
Small interracial Sister Groups representing
racially diverse church partnerships are formed to meet monthly.
Three black and three white women make up the six women in each
Sister Group, and meet monthly. Our focus is on praying together,
conducting honest dialogue focused on racial harmony, and sharing
experiences at each other's churches. We also attend family events,
have meals, and enjoy recreation together.
Women of Pittsburgh 2000 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization,
supported by fundraising through churches, individuals, and proceeds
from the Ebony and Ivory Ball.
In 2004, we continue our goal to build racial harmony
through one on one relationships. With member input and following
many hours of discussion, we decided to keep our name as Women of
Pittsburgh 2000. We recognized that there is already name recognition
and that, while 2000 originally meant the year 2000, we are living
in the century of the 2000s and will identify with that for many
years to come.
